FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT MOOT 2021

Hi, this is a long overdue post. I have procrastinated a lot. Since, it's new year's eve, I just had to post this one before 2022.

Back in October and November 2021, I joined my last moot competition. Sad but just had to because final year of degree is tough.

I joined the Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot the (“FDI Moot"). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021 FDI Moot Global Rounds in Seoul was held as an entirely virtual Round. So yeah it's still the same experience, virtual moot since 2019. My team and I joined the St Petersburg FDI Pre-Moot 2021 virtually as well. The FDI Moot is actually an annual competition that helps law students attain a practical understanding of the issues that arise out of these obligations between host States and foreign investors. To be honest, it was a new area of law for me. It was pretty difficult at first. Especially during the research stage.

The 2021 FDI Moot case deals with an aviation sector investment (privatization program), which falters due to circumstances that the investor attributes to the economically distressed host State. The ensuing arbitration pursuant to a “new-generation” investment agreement and under the ICSID Arbitration (Additional Facility) Rules raises questions of the investor’s standing (due to the involvement of the home State), of amicus brief admissibility, of the use of an MFN provision, of the nature of FET claims and of appropriate standards of compensation. My part was mostly on the issue of investor's standing and the amicus brief admissibility.

St Petersburg FDI Pre-Moot 2021 (23-24 October 2021)

There were 24 teams altogether for the pre-moot. It was a golden opportunity for us to sharpen our arguments and practice our presentation before the global rounds. I gained so much insights from the arbitrators consisting of academicians, lawyers and arbitrators.

FDI Moot Global Rounds 2021 (28 October – 3 November 2021)

My team and I gathered at our university so that we can moot together. It was so fun, 2 years online learning from home and finally going back to the university for just for few days made me so happy. We made it to Round 16 in the global rounds. I was super happy but that round was conducted at 11pm-1am.

Look at my sleepy face. We lost this round and couldn't make it to quarter finals. Our opponents made it to the final round and literally won the whole competition. They were superb!!

It was an amazing journey, a roller coaster ride. I survived thanks to my teammates, coaches, family & friends for their endless support.

Hoping for the best for 2022. Wish me luck! xoxo

SUPERPARK KL, Malaysia - Avenue K Shopping Mall

Back in November, I spent some time with my high school sweethearts at the SuperPark KL!

Operating hours: Tuesday-Sunday 10am-7.30pm (Closed on Monday)

Location: Unit 4-1, Level 4, Avenue K Shopping Mall, 156, Jalan Ampang, 50450, Kuala Lumpur.

It was quite a last minute plan so there were no tickets left on Klook (which would be much cheaper than on the SuperPark Website itself)

Klook : SuperPark : RM 42 (Weekdays & Weekends)

SuperPark Website : RM 47 (Weekdays) ; RM 53 (Weekends)

My friends and I went there during the weekends. Please note that the price stated is for a 2 Hour Session. For a whole day session is RM 78 both weekdays & weekends which you can purchase it on the website. Also you need to buy their grip socks at the counter for RM6.

After booking your slots online, make sure to come at least 15 mins early and to sign a waiver form that they sent you in your email after placing your booking online.

You'll get these wristbands. There are also complimentary lockers for you to store your personal belongings, operated via your wristband.

The venue is fully air-conditioned and all visitors are required to wear SuperPark grip socks. Purple looks extra nice but they only have grey at that moment.

Each activity has a "Game Rules" board outside, which you should read before attempting the activity as it also includes the amount of people/height required for the activities. Our fav activities at the SuperPark include the Tube Slide, Pedal Car Track, Flying Fox and the Trampolines. Some activities were not available due to Covid-19 (Hygiene purposes).
The Tube Slide : You need to drag the big tube-tyre up the hill and then slide all the way back down.

Dragging itself was sooooo tiring but the sliding part was fun! Except for how crazy fast it slides down. Don't worry it's safe. I'm still alive! This activity has a looooooooooong queue. I would suggest for you to try it out as soon as you come into the park.

Pedal Car Track. This is the biggest size. Suitable for adults. There are smaller ones for the kids too.

The Flying Fox. It's a mini version. The crew will explain to you the steps.

Sit back, relax and fly~

Okay here's the trampoline. Jump to your heart's content! <3

Even better, the crew can teach you some tricks too!

Trampolines but this is actually a Valojump, an interactive game at the trampoline area

Overall it was a great experience. 2 hours were more than enough for me. Unless if you gotta spent your time in a looooong queue. Well, plan it right and hope this helps.

Most importantly, have fun and be safe okay guys.

Also, we went to an outdoor park (Taman Botani KL) during the evening where the lighting was even better. Meet my high school sweethearts since 2014 <3

Until the next post! xoxo

SUDIO T2 REVIEW

Wireless TWS earbuds are essential nowadays. They provide a lot of convenience compared to wired earphones. Aside from audio quality and battery life, we can't always forget to look for the most beautiful TWS earphones our hands can get on.

Welcoming October with a bang, the Swedish company (Yes, Sudio) that produces elegant and minimalistic audio devices is back with Sudio T2, the latest generation of the best-selling Sudio Tolv. The upgraded version looks the same on the outside but packs in active noise cancellation (ANC) to deliver even better listening pleasure and improved microphone technology. “Beamforming” microphones, to be precise. On paper, Sudio T2 also boasts of its Bluetooth 5.2 (SBC codec), 8mm dynamic driver, and is splash-proof.

I recently got the chance to test out their latest and attractive Sudio T2.

In this Sudio T2 review, I'll answer the questions to help you decide if it is worth making the switch from your current TWS earbuds.

Unboxing

The unit arrived in a square, white box with the product's render in front. Inside, you'll find the unit, charging case, three extra ear tips in different sizes, USB-C cable, paper manual, and warranty card.

Build Quality

The Sudio T2 charging case is made of high-quality polycarbonate with a smooth velvety finish. The buds are also made from the same materials as the charging case. It won't slip as easily because of the texture. It comes with a tassel made of flexible and soft fabric. The charging case sports a pebble shape with the LED indicator and charging port at the back, a pairing button at the bottom and Sudio branding in front.

Front View.

View from the bottom.

Clean and Aesthetic Design

The new T2 looks good, featuring a minimalistic, elegant, design. Each earbud comes with a textured, metallic silver touch-sensitive button. The tiny concentric circles on each button nicely reflect the light. An LED indicator is also present, that lights up white upon opening of the case which means the buds are fully charged and red when they're low in battery. Sudio claims that the T2 is splash-proof, but it does not have an IP rating.

The earbuds have right and left markings with the brand just below them as well as a microphone, silver chrome design, and mesh filter.

Colors

It is available in four colors: white, black, jade, and sand. Also glad that they continued the color Sand from Sudio NIO to Sudio T2. I went for the basic black. If you're up to pastel colors, Sand and Jade are aesthetically pleasing.

Comfort

By default, the medium ear tips accompany the buds. I find it perfect for my ears so I didn't have to change them. But in case this doesn't suit you, you can choose from XS, S, and L ear tip sizes provided in the package for a better fit. Exercise won't be a problem, you won't have to worry about it falling off. The Sudio T2 is also sweat and splashproof, so that means going out for a run, getting caught in light drizzle are not problems you need to worry about. You shouldn’t have to, anyway.

Pairing and Touch Controls

Connection with iPad

Sudio T2 can be paired on any Android, Apple, Windows and Linux devices. Once paired, you only have to open the case and it will automatically connects to the device.

Touch control for the T2 is activated by touches and holds on the metallic surface of either earbud. In other words, similar to recent Sudio products.

For music/video playback

1. Touch once on either earbud (left or right) to play or pause.
2. Touch twice on the left earbud to rewind.
3. Touch twice on the right earbud to go forward.
4. Touch three times on the left earbud to decrease volume.
5. Touch three times on the right earbud to increase volume.

Incoming phone calls

1. Touch once on either earbud (left or right) to accept a phone call.
2. Touch (hold) for three seconds on either earbud (left or right) to reject or end a phone call.

Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode

1. Touch (hold) for two seconds on either earbud (left or right) to cycle between normal mode, active noise cancellation mode, and transparency mode.

Power

1. Touch (hold) for five seconds on either earbud (left or right) to power on (single earbud)
2. Touch (hold) for five seconds on either earbud to power off (both earbuds). After 2 seconds the listening mode will change, followed by sound off.

Sound Quality

Audio, of course, is the most important feature in every TWS earphones.

To me, the sound quality of the Sudio T2 is awesome. It produces more pronounced basses and sounds that are deep. Overall, the Sudio T2 delivers balanced, beautiful, and very enjoyable audio. It won't disappoint casual users like me.

Now, for the ANC. Active noise cancellation on the Sudio T2 is quite subtle. The level of noise reduction is not really that significant. It's interesting that Sudio T2 also has a mode that amplifies the environment sound.

Using the Sudio T2 for WFH meetings or Online Distance Learning is possible too, with its improved microphone technology and “Beamforming” microphones which see a microphone array in each wireless earbud: one pointing outwards while the other is aimed towards the user’s mouth. The earbuds simultaneously captures both voice and ambient sounds before an internal signal processing algorithm processes the sounds to reduce environmental noise to ensure voice clarity.

Battery

Sudio claims that the T2 offers up to 7.5 hours listening time and 35 hours battery life using the charging case or 6.5 hours when active noise cancellation is turned on.  If you do need to charge up the earbuds urgently, the quick charge gets you 2 hours of listening time with just a 10 minute charge.

Best Price, Free Worldwide Delivery and Warranty

Sudio T2 retails at MYR549.00/129 USD with free worldwide shipping and 3 years international warranty with Sudio Sphere.

VERDICT

With an ergonomic design, long battery life, great ANC technology, attractive colors, and good audio quality, the Sudio T2 is music to the ears for most people. I think these wireless earbuds are great for all types of use, including exercising with, meetings and movie watching. If you’re an audiophile expecting the best earbuds, you’ve got to look elsewhere.

The Sudio T2 can easily capture anyone's attention thanks to its aesthetic, clean design. Not to mention the colors are eye-catching. In my one month of testing Sudio T2 as an average consumer, I'm very pleased with the overall quality, sound and build of the earphones. It's fairly priced, has good aesthetics and are a comfortable pair of earbuds.

FREE GOODNOTES ALTERNATIVE FOR IPAD

Hi everyone, I have been saving this almost for two months now. I just had to try out all these alternatives before suggesting it to you.

At the start of the semester (6 moths ago), I have shared a great digital note-taking app that you can use on your iPad.

Read Here : REVIEW : GOODNOTES 5

Now, I would like to share other free alternatives you can choose from.

Apple Notes

The app comes free with macOS/iOS devices. It does a great job of letting you type or take notes by hand. If you only need to take a few basic notes or create a few checklists, Apple Notes is probably all that you’ll ever need. It syncs with iCloud, is available on every Apple device (except for Apple Watch), and is part of your standard operating system.

However, the downside of it won't be as organized as you would like it. Organized to me would be seeing all my notes for one particular subject in a notebook/folder. Apple Notes won't help you with that. You can sort your notes by Date Edited, Date Created and Title.

To make it more organized, you may create a title like : Subject : Chapter : Date

E.g : Biology, Human Respiratory System : 27/8

Microsoft OneNote

This is one of the oldest app in the list. It first came out in 2003 when I was a toddler!

On this app, the notes are organized in multiple notebooks, which are divided into sections. This is particularly convenient to those who use Microsoft Office. Highly recommend this to Microsoft Office users, who will immediately find the user interface familiar. Fret not, it works well with everyone as well.

It also does a great job of letting you type or take notes by hand. OneNote lets you write notes either on a blank page or a layout that emulates a sheet of lined paper. OneNote for iPad also offers a variety of multimedia features. You can insert graphics and even include voice recordings. You can also search notes for specific words and view your notes across devices. This search function is also available on GoodNotes5 and trust me it helps a lot during classes when your lecturer suddenly pops up a question. You can just search for the keyword and you'll see your notes related to the keyword.

Lastly, if you’re already a serious Microsoft app user, then OneNote will integrate seamlessly into your workflow. Everything you created in OneNote is automatically backed up to OneDrive.

Penultimate

It allows users to write, sketch or draw on their device. Penultimate features different notebooks with unlimited pages. It has all the standard note-taking features you want, including a variety of layouts and the ability to search your handwritten notes with optical character recognition.

For the layouts, it has much more option than GoodNotes 5.

These are some of the layouts :

Types of layouts consist of Writing, Time & Tasks (Easy to make a planner), Photo Pages, Games, Design Collection, Young Writers and Music.

Bonus point, it's a free app. This app is own by Evernote. If you already use Evernote, then you can seamlessly add Penultimate. Just sign into the app with your Evernote account and all your notes will automatically sync to the Evernote notebook of your choice.

That's all for now, wishing everyone the best for your studying/working process. Hope this helps!

MIXED HERBS POWDER AND HONEY FROM URBAN ECOLIFE AGROFARM

Hi everyone, I've been very busy with my assignments. It's also so frustrating that we are still in the midst of the pandemic and it's still impossible for some us to see their loved ones, family and friends. Nevertheless, it is very important for all of us to take a good care of our health including the our loved ones.

My family and I have tried few products from Urban Ecolife Agrofarm which we think it's very suitable and good for us in the midst of the pandemic.

  • Original Kelulut Honey (Madu Kelulut Asli)

For someone who loves to have honey in her drinks and food, I wanted to try this honey on its own. Firstly, I like that it's not super thick. It's sweet but it's a bit acidic so you can taste a bit of sourness. You can consume this twice a day. Fun fact, it's rich of antioxidants which may reduce the risk of many diseases (including heart disease and certain cancers)!

They have 2 sizes. One is 600ml and another one is 300ml. If you want to try, you can try the 300ml.

Also, they have another honey product called Madu Apis Mellifera.

  • Mixed Herbs Powder for Holistic Health (Serbuk Campuran Herba untuk Kesihatan Holistik)

I wanted to try this one so bad because it's for holistic health. Also, the ingredient is Moringa which is famous for its various benefits including treating mood disorders, fighting against bacterial diseases and more.

  • Mixed Herbs Powder to Overcome Diabetes (Serbuk Campuran Herba atasi K- Manis)

For this one, the CDC of U.S. Department of Health & Human Services had confirmed this that if you have a family health history of diabetes, you are more likely to have prediabetes and develop diabetes. Even if you don't have family health history of diabetes, your diet can also be the reason for you to develop diabetes.

This product aims to help to control your sugar level in your blood but please control your diet as well. Try to cut half of your current sugar intake and put more sweetness in your smile hehe!

So, for these mixed herbs. You can try make a smoothie with it. 1 teaspoon of your preferred mixed herbs and blend it with few chunks of ice cubes! If you love honey in your smoothie, you can add another teaspoon of the Original Kelulut Honey. Try it out guys!

These are few other mixed herbs powder from Urban Eco Farm that you can try as well :

  • Virgin Coconut Oil with Black Seed Oil (Minyak Kelapa Dara dengan Habbatus Sauda)

This one is quite unique I would say. It's a combination of 2 oils with many benefits. I actually use virgin coconut oil for my hair. Like a hair oil mist. Apparently, this product would also benefit for the hair as well. Not just that, scientific studies shown that it prevents/helps for dementia. There are sooooooooo many benefits. You can watch more here : BENEFITS AND HOW TO USE VIRGIN COCONUT OIL & BLACK SEED OIL

They have virgin coconut oil too!

Again, we have to take care of our health consistently. To me, these products would help to improve your health as all of them contains variety of ingredients with ample of benefits. If you try them or love any of the ingredients or even thinking purchasing, share them in the comment!

Sudio NIO Case (vegan friendly from apple peels)

Hi everyone! I hope it's not too late to wish to my Muslim readers a happy eid! Are you guys still enjoying your Raya food while reading this? I am certainly munching on some semprit right now.

Do you guys remember when I made a review on Nio by Sudio in January earlier? If you're new here, you can check out the post : READ HERE

I am super happy that Sudio finally released its NIO case to protect our beloved earphones. Not to mention it add more style to it as well!

You must be thinking what's so special about this case?

Here are my thoughts on the NIO CASE :

Vegan Friendly Leather Case

Sudio NIO Case which has been designed with sustainable, plant-based materials. It is created from apple peels from an orchard in northern Italy. The peels are dried and pulverized into a fine powder to create a base material incorporated with other non-toxic ingredients and organic pigments. The process of turning discarded apple peels into plant-based, cruelty-free leather creates a beautiful, hypoallergenic, and biodegradable material that fits your style.

It's also durable and let me tell you that it’s far better for the planet than any other leather product. It is also certified by both the USDA and VeganOk. Plus point, it looks stylish and classy.

Tadaaa look at the texture of the case!

Elastic Strap

What I like the most about the Sudio NIO Case is the elastic strap on it. The stretchy elastic strap is to ensure a perfect fit of the case and securing our cute little earphones.

The 2021 Global Rounds of the Jessup Competition

A week ago, the 2021 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition finally came to an end. This year was the first time the Jessup was held remotely, and it brought together 570 Teams from 90 countries. I was honored to be a part of the largest virtual moot court competition in the world and of course the opportunity to join this competition despite the hurdles this pandemic has given to me.

My team and I did some warm ups by joining the intercontinental round on 1-7 March and we finished as the First Runner Up.

READ HERE : JESSUP INTERCONTINENTAL ROUNDS

Joining the global round was definitely a whole level of experience for me. We made it to the White and Case Advanced Rounds. Listed among Top 168 teams with our Malaysian friends from The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and University of Malaya. Unfortunately, the Jessup journey for me ended there. Our team did not advance to the next rounds as the Top 48.

I sure am proud of myself and grateful that it was virtual as I was sick during my rounds. If it was conducted physically I doubt that I can stand up straight.

It was a memorable experience for sure. Sometimes I cried during the feedback sessions with the judges. Mainly when most of them said that it was a great match, they're proud and asked us to give ourselves a big pat on the back for making it here after working so hard.

Other than, I really appreciate their feedbacks especially on our knowledge of the law and remind us to always keep ourselves aware of new/recent cases (especially international cases since it's an international competition). This is exactly one of the reason why I join such competitions because I don't see myself digging or researching on some international law cases that I might not learn in class (but you should, please do).

At the end of the competition, it was really sad. I remember getting the offer to join the competition on the last day of my internship last year. After 7 whole months of doing research and oral training with coaches Prof Irwin, Dr Ummi Hani, a long list of alumni and my teammates, I am glad of our achievement. It's never about winning but it's always about the journey.

Finally, kudos to all mooters for taking part this year despite of the pandemic. I had my shares of technical issues during the rounds and I sure saw some of the mooters experienced the same thing. I became more calm now in handling technical issues I guess.

I'm so excited for another moot competition, looking forward to meet more law students virtually and hopefully physically by the end of the year.
