I've been super busy due to my internship. It's a mandatory requirement under my faculty for the law students to undergo an internship program for 5 weeks. Place? Own choice and preference.
Before I decided to go to AGC, I sent applications to few law firms around Selangor. It was quite difficult due to the pandemic. Some firms rejected interns because they don't have the budget to give allowance or some actually considered that they have less ongoing cases and it would be tough for the interns to learn and experience things. Few firms didn't even reply to my emails :")
After taking into consideration that this would be for my mandatory internship, best choice would be at the Attorney's General Chambers, Putrajaya.
Reasons :
- So many divisions [Prosecution, Civil, Advisory, Drafting, Research, International Affairs, Law Revision and Law Reform, Appellate and Trial and Syariah and Harmonisation of Law]
- Due to my limited time here, my faculty requested for the students to be placed under Prosecution Division and Civil Division. 3 weeks at the Prosecution Division and another 2 weeks at the Civil Division.
- Once in a lifetime opportunity. This is only if you don't have the intention to work for the government in the future. So, if you don't join the service after you graduated, you won't know how the system works. Hence, my choice of trying it out now. Just a glimpse but all the advice given here are super useful for you to consider your options in the future.
My five weeks here have been so productive. We actually helped out by doing research on several ongoing cases. It was so intimidating at first, the feeling that we could contribute in a case. Especially in a high profile case like Tengku Adnan's. We did our research and the next day or 2 days later, we get to read the results on the Internet.
I learnt so many things. My friends and I have just finished our second year of our law degree. We have yet to study civil and criminal procedures in which we had the opportunity to learn them at the AGC. The Deputy Public Prosecutors (DPP) and Federal Counsels are very helpful in so many ways. I would definitely recommend my juniors to apply to AGC for their internship.
At the end of this internship, I feel more confident than before. Speaking before the DPP and Federal Counsel, it's way more scary than speaking in front of my lecturers. Presenting our research findings on their own cases were so intimidating but it's always important to be humble. Be open and ready to grasp new knowledge or skills. Always listen to their feedbacks and you'll be fine. Wishing the very best to those who will undergo internships!
Here are my internmates :

This was when we had the most intense presentation ever. The one in the middle is our lecturer, Mr. Muiz.
This picture clearly illustrates our daily routine, doing our research in the discussion room every single day.
We'll be in our third year next week! All the best to all students, find your own pace to go through online learning mode!

So cute!
Hi! Can I know how you applied and how long does it take to get a response from the AGC. Thinking of applying but don't know how (PS. I studied law in a private uni)
Hi Sya! I applied through my faculty and it took 2 months before I received an acceptance letter (from AGC to my faculty stating that they have no problems in accepting the students listed). I remember asking the management at AGC before my internship ended whether can I apply again for internship personally, but they said that they don't accept personal applications. Only accept from universities. Hope it helps! Good luck for your internship. Stay in touch! <3
Hi Farah! I am amazed that you had the opportunity to intern at the AGC. I am facing difficulties to secure myself with an internship despite having excellent results. My university also does not help students applying to the AGC. Could you advise on how I can get around with it because i am really interested to intern in AGC. Thank you!
Hi ynn, very sorry for the late reply. I hope you can contact me through my IG/LinkedIn/emails next time so that I could reply faster. I really hope you have secured a placement by this time around. Sending you lots of love!
